Susan Weber Svoboda

Susan Weber Svoboda attended Immaculate Conception School where she was voted Smartest Girl in class, The Mary Louis Academy where she skated through excelling in mathematics, St John’s University where she was in the top 1% of the graduating class and was elected the first woman president of the Accounting Society and the president of the Phi Chi Theta Business Fraternity for Women and received a BS in Accounting. She received an MA in Economics from Columbia University and spent ten years studying Business part-time in the Columbia University Business School PhD Program. She was selected the Haskins and Sells Fellow and attended a Consortium for outstanding doctoral candidates in Colorado. Susan worked for Price Waterhouse and Co. while attending Columbia University in their Research Department and subsequently as a member of their audit staff. She received her CPA Certificate in May 1973. After her oldest daughter, Stacey, was born in May 1973 she was asked to become an Assistant Professor at St. John’s University. She received an unsolicited award from Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. as an Outstanding Auditing Professor. St. John’s paid for her to attend the PhD Program at Columbia University. During this time she gave birth to Stephen in September 1976 and Andrew in October 1979. In 1983 she left St. John’s University and Columbia University. She was very close to receiving her PhD. She gave birth to her youngest daughter, Audrey, in July of 1984. In 1974 she and her husband who had recently received his CPA Certificate formed a partnership called Svoboda & Svoboda, CPAs. Bob, her husband, was the Tax Partner. Sue was the Audit Partner. She and her husband were divorced in 1995 and Sue started her own firm Susan W Svoboda, CPA in the Adirondack Mountains specializing in Not-for-Profit audits and tax returns. She retired from this firm in December 2022
